Student Health

MEDICATIONS
Sherry Shelby, the School Nurse, is typically at Speight once weekly. Medical needs of students are communicated to teachers and staff. The receptionist maintains the responsibility for administering prescription and OTC medication to students who have been approved to receive them by the School Nurse.  No student shall be administered medication that has not returned a  Medication Administration Form   signed by their physician.  In the nurses's absence, the School Secretary/Receptionists may administer. Upon approval, some students are responsible for testing and administration of their own medications and are allowed to keep them with them in the classroom.  Teachers will be notified of these special circumstances by the school nurse.

SCHOOL COUNSELING
Speight's School Counselor is Rahshauna Holmes.
All students at Speight have access to services provided by the School Counselor. On-campus counseling is available to students who are experiencing difficulties with academics or behavior, social problems, family problems, including medical emergencies and adjustment to school in general.
In non-emergencies, students should let their teacher know that they would like to speak with the counselor, then the teacher will refer students to the counselor by emailing or calling her about the situation.  The counselor will call students to her office for conferences.
